The Awards is a leading platform for sustainability intelligence, leadership and innovation in best green practice in Kenya.
The Awards help businesses gain recognition for their achievements throughout the year in protecting and enhancing our environment.

Whether you are a multi-national or an MSME, a government department or a Non-governmental organization, or simply an individual who is hoping to make a difference; the Green Business Awards is the forum which will bring recognition to you on a national scale.

Why Climate Change

Africa accounts for just 3.8% of greenhouse gas emissions globally. However, the continent is the most highly exposed to the impacts of climate change. We are starting to see its effects in temperature changes, with most of the continent experiencing a 1-degree Celsius rise since 1901. If the continent warms by2 degrees Celsius by 2050 โ€“ according to IPCC projections โ€“ crop yields across sub-Saharan Africa will reduce by 10%.

On the one hand, going green has thus become a necessity for running a successful and sustainable business, rather than an option. On the other hand, businesses are also uniquely placed to contribute positively to the environment.

WHY GREEN BUSINESS?

Africa Green businesses create work that is decent, contributes to poverty reduction and leads to social inclusion.

Going green can help businesses, provide a marketing advantage, and result in cost savings and increased efficiency and productivity.

By participating in the green economy, your business contributes towards reducing unemployment
by creating green jobs and decent work.

WHAT IS GREEN BUSINESS?

The concept of โ€œgreen businessโ€ is composed of two elements โ€“ โ€œgreenโ€ and โ€œbusinessโ€. โ€˜โ€ Businessโ€ is about making money. But โ€œGreenโ€ means doing so while sustainably harnessing opportunities that nature holds, and without harming the environment.

Entrepreneurs can enter into the โ€œgreenโ€ business sector by either providing environmentally friendly products or services or through an environmentally friendly process or with the help of clean technologies which reduce any negative effects of the business.

The Africa Climate Summit & AGBA

The Summit served as a platform to inform, frame, and influence commitments, pledges, and outcomes, ultimately leading to the development of the Nairobi Declaration.

Although climate change is a universal existential threat, there is good reason for Africaโ€™s institutions and leadership to drive the agenda of mitigating its effects,โ€ HE Dr. William Ruto, The president of the Republic of Kenya,

The Africa Green Business Awards is therefore set to recognise the extraordinary contribution & and commitment that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and other organizations make towards growing a greener future in the Kenya businesses today.
